Custom LTC & OLTC Transformers | High-Quality Voltage Regulation Solutions
SPECIAL TRANSFORMERS

A load tap changing (LTC) transformer is a type of power transformer that is designed to maintain a constant voltage output regardless of changes in the input voltage. It is used in electrical power distribution systems to provide a stable supply of electricity to consumers.
We provides wide range of transformers manufacturing as per customer requirements like: booster, high voltage transformers etc. Our well expert engineer and labor team works as quality production for energy industries.

The LTC transformer achieves this by varying its turns ratio, which in turn changes the output voltage level. The main purpose of the LTC transformer is to regulate the voltage supplied to the power grid by controlling the number of turns in the transformer’s secondary winding. By changing the turns ratio, the LTC transformer can maintain a constant voltage level even when there are fluctuations in the input voltage.
LTC transformers are commonly used in distribution systems where the voltage regulation requirements are high. These transformers are installed at distribution substations, and they are typically rated from a few hundred kVA to several MVA. They can also be used in industrial settings where voltage fluctuations can cause significant damage to equipment.
One of the key features of the LTC transformer is its tap changer. The tap changer is an electrical switch that is used to connect the transformer’s secondary winding to different taps on the primary winding. The number of taps on the primary winding can vary from a few to several dozen, depending on the transformer’s size and application.
OLTC transformers are more commonly used in distribution systems because they can adjust the tap position while the transformer is under load. This allows for continuous voltage regulation without interrupting power to consumers. However, OLTC transformers are more complex and expensive than OLTC transformers, and they require more maintenance.
In conclusion, load tap changing transformers are an essential component of modern electrical power distribution systems. They help to regulate the voltage supplied to consumers by adjusting the transformer’s turns ratio. OLTC transformers are the preferred type of transformer for distribution systems because they can adjust the tap position while the transformer is under load. However, they are more complex and expensive than OLTC transformers and require more maintenance.
Construction
It consists of a center tap reactor or a resistor, with a voltage V1 employees HV – high voltage winding and LV – low voltage winding, a switch S which is present is a diverter switch, 4 selector switches S1, S2, S3, S4, 4 & Taps T1, T2, T3, T4. Taps are placed in a separate oil-filled compartment where the OLTC switch is present.
This tap changer operates remotely and also manually for safety purposes. There is a provision of a sperate handle for manual control. If the selector switch breaks down, it leads to a short circuit and damages the transformer. Hence in order to overcome this, we use resistor/reactor in the circuit which provides impedance, thereby reducing short circuit effect.
Application
OLTC Transformers are used in :-
- Chemical plant, Bottling plant.
- Paper mills, Sugar mills, Rolling mills, Steel mills.
- Industries which rely heavily on automation, where electronic cards, PLC and VFDs are used in operations and actuation.
